Leave the car in front of Bohemian Cottage and head along the blue road towards Doubice. You can also hop on a scooter, which we will lend you here. After 3 km, turn off the road to Karlova výšina (580 m.a.s.l.). You won’t regret it, the view of Doubica and Czech Saxon Switzerland is worth it. Continue on without a sign along the so-called stone path and after 500 meters you will come across an asphalt road that continues to Doubice. In the small village of Doubice, full of half-timbered houses, be sure to stop at Stará hospoda (they are always open) and try traditional Czech specialties. You can get back by going up towards Vápenka (see map), first along the green and then along the red back to Kamenná Horka.

From the remote village of Krompach (500 m.a.s.l.) the road leads to the very top of the Lužické Mountains, Mount Hvozd 749 m.a.s.l. (Hochwald in German), where you can enjoy a wonderful view in all directions and the German restaurant Hochwaldbaude.

Park in the village square in Krompach and follow the red light to head up. Do not cross the turn that will lead you to the very old Yews (Supposedly over 500 years old), of which there are quite a few along the way. Between the stilt houses and the horse enclosure, you will reach the border stones with Germany, which you will pass all the way to the very top. The last climb is a scree basalt field (approx. 200m), where you will feel like you are in the Alps. You can stop by the Hochwaldbaude hut or the nearby Hochwald Lookout. You can go back the same way or along the yellow (slightly longer) path.

Bike trips in the Lužické Mountains are mostly up and down. We start in the tourist village of Waltersdorf (free parking behind the church) and immediately walk uphill in the direction of Mount Luž at the Rubethahlbaude state border (possibility of refreshments on both the German and Czech sides). After a nice forest road, we drive down to Nonnenfels as usual. We turn off the main road after 3 km. We lock the bikes and go out to the viewpoint, where there is a Berggasthof snack bar and nice views (300 meters there and back on foot). We get on our bikes and drive towards Kurort Jornsdorf, where we continue along the road to the Czech border, the village of Krompach. Passing Julionka and Hamr (possibility of refreshments at the Penzion Pod přehradou) we stop near Naděje. Cold swimming guaranteed even in summer, I recommend it. Via Rozcestník U Jána up the hill on cycle path 3061 to the Luž hut (refreshments). Then it’s all downhill back.
