The picturesque town of Kurort Rathen in Saxon Switzerland can be reached by car from Kr\u00e1sn\u00e1 L\u00edpa via Sebnitz within one hour. On the way, follow the signs for the Bastei rock massif. Before entering Kurort Rathen, you will be stopped by an entry ban at the paid parking lot. From there it’s a 10-minute walk down the hill to the center. The fairy-tale town is divided by the river Elbe into Oberrathen (Upper) and Niederrathen (Lower). A ferry shuttles from one bank to the other every now and then (adults there and back for 1.50 Euros, children free, bikes too). On one and the other side you will see picturesque log houses, shops, cafes inviting you to sit. On the left bank, there is a magical place for children, the garden railway (Eisenbahnwelten) full of models of train sets, stations, villages and cities in Saxony. It’s definitely worth seeing, even if the family entrance fee is 18 Euros.<\/p>\n

If time permits, there is a walking path from Kurort Rathen to the Bastei massif. It takes about 1 hour uphill. You can go back by minibus.<\/p>\n
